Sunburst Granny Square

  1. Chain 4. Slip stitch through first chain to form a ring. Chain 2, then make 15 DC into center of ring. (I like the magic ring, personally), (You can change colors each round, or keep one color throughout). Make a slip stitch into the second chain from your original chain 4.
  2.  Go into top of next stitch and start a puff stitch sequence (yarn over, go into stitch, pull up a loop, come out the stitch, yarn over, go into stitch, pull up a loop come out of stitch…) until you have 4 or 6 tall loops on the hook (whichever gives you the preferred puffy look). Yarn over and pull through all the loops…continue the round.  When you’re back at the start, slip stitch into top of first puff stitch.
  3.  Next Round: go between first puff stitch and do DC cluster: chain 2, yarn over, go in stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2, repeat until you have 3 loops, yarn over then pull through all 3, chain 1.
  4. On the next between puff set, repeat the above, but 3 or 4 times until there are 4 or 5 loops on the hook (or your preferred thickness).
  5. Slip stitch when you’ve finished the round. Then move to next puff space, between the puff, and slip stitch to this point.
  6. Chain 2 and make 2 DC in this space. Go to next space and put 3 DC in that space.
  7. Move to next space and make 3 Treble Crochets (yarn over twice - Trebles go on the corners). Then chain 2 and make 3 more TCs into this same space.
  8. Then 3 groups of 3 DC into the next 3 spaces. Then 3 TC, chain 2, then 3 TC.  Follow this pattern around.
